Inspirational Words, Stitched

Someone in my guild pieced this cheerful quilt top and donated it to the committee that provides quilts to kids. I noticed it at our last workday, and took it to do the quilting part. I used a soft muslin for the backing, and 100% cotton batting. I wanted to practice my feathers, which I did, but added some hearts because the fabric called for it. There were areas of solid in the first border and I stitched words in this area. I put positive messages like, “love to you always” and “you are special”. I’m not usually a fan of text on quilts, but the fabric seemed to lend itself to something uplifting for a little woman. I was also more pleased with my text than my feathers, so I think I will practice more of both. I rent time on a long arm machine at my local quilt shop. The time I get to practice and develop my skill is infrequent. But, I can see that I am improving, which makes me happy. My idea of a happy Saturday is when I get to drive down to the quilt shop, sipping my Starbucks, listening to a quilt or sewing podcast, and then work on the long arm machine all morning. This cheerful quilt top made it all the much better. I wish I knew the guild member who donated this. It was much like another one that picked up because I was drawn to its beauty. I have some binding prepped and I hope to get this back to the guild by our meeting this month. This made my weekend. I just wanted to share this happy thought.
