Product Review-Roxanne’s Glue Baste-It

Today I’m reviewing Roxanne’s Glue-Baste-It from the perspective of a quilter. I first purchased this product to use to improve the precision of my quilt construction. When sewing fabric pieces together to make blocks, I have found that the glue basting technique is very helpful in keeping the pieces from sliding, thereby allowing me to create quilt blocks accurate to the pattern. The Roxanne’s Glue-Baste-It performed well for me. Here’s why.

purchased my first bottle of this glue from an online retailer. The shipment contained the glue with a screw cap, two screw-on hollow needles caps, one short, one long. Also included was an implement that looks very much like the nylon piece that hold price tags to clothing. This nylon piece can be used in the needle clogs.

Because the needles are very thin, I was able to use a very small amount of glue to accomplish my task. On each pair of fabric pieces I placed tiny dots of glue on the seam edge, carefully placed the fabric pieces together, then I pressed with a hot, dry iron. The dry heat bonds the fabric together so that I can feed under the presser foot without anything sliding out of place. This is a great way to prepare pieces for chain piecing one, which is feeding many paired pieces through the stitching process one right after the other without stopping. Because I sometimes get distracted, and pair pieces incorrectly, it is very easy to pull apart the glued pieces and try again. There is no stickiness, no spots too hard to stitch through, and the glue eventually washes out when the finished quilt is laundered.

I have heard quilters comment that regular, school glue will work the same way, costing much less. I have also heard that persons are wary of the hollow needle applicator because it might clog. My experience is that the needle does clog sometimes, but is easily cleared with the nylon/plastic cord provided. This is the thing that looks like thing that attaches a price tag to a garment. I have always capped the needle tip. I do not remove the needle applicator from the bottle after using. One bottle lasts me several months. In my experience, if you put the cap back on the needle tip, you will not have a problem with clogging.
Depending upon the size, and the applicator, the cost of one bottle is approximately $10 to $11. Roxanne Glue Baste It can be found in the adhesive section of your quilt store.
